Tian Mi is an art historian specializing in late imperial China (ca. 1300–1900). Her current book project explores the intersections of art and technology during the Qing dynasty (1644–1911), tracing how traditional ink arts such as calligraphy and painting were adapted to meet practical needs in heritage conservation, water management, and military defense.

Research Interests

Chinese painting and calligraphy, material culture, heritage conservation, artistic exchanges within East Asia (especially among China, Japan, and Korea), and cross-cultural interactions between East Asia and the West.
