Chi-keung Chan (陳志強) is Assistant Professor of Philosophy in the Division of Humanities at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He currently serves as President of the Chinese Association of Philosophy and Associate Editor of Philosophical Explorations. Prior to joining HKUST in 2026, he was Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at National Taiwan University.

His research focuses on Song–Ming Neo-Confucianism, Chinese philosophy, comparative philosophy, and interdisciplinary philosophy, with particular interests in moral psychology, moral agency, embodied cognition, and moral epistemology. His work has appeared in leading international philosophy journals, including Philosophy, Philosophy Compass, Philosophical Explorations, Topoi, Philosophy East and West, and Dao.

He has held visiting appointments at the University of Oxford, the Harvard-Yenching Institute, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Boston University. His research has been supported by major fellowships and grants, including the Harvard-Yenching Institute Visiting Scholars Fellowship, the Fulbright Senior Research Grant, the Fulbright-RGC Hong Kong Research Scholar Award, and two flagship programs of Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council: the 2030 Cross-Generation Young Scholars Program (International Outstanding Young Scholars) and the Young Scholar Fellowship (Einstein Program).

Research Interests

Song–Ming Neo-Confucianism, Classical Confucianism, Contemporary New Confucianism, Chinese philosophy, comparative philosophy, and interdisciplinary studies.
