摘要
陳守仁教授先後在1984-1985年、1990年、2006年進行三次神功粤劇普查,成果見於《儀式、信仰、演劇:神功粵劇在香港》和《香港神功戲》等書。2016年初至2018年3月,他與湛黎淑貞博士受到「衛奕信勳爵文物信託」的資助,進行了新一輪的普查。本講座將探討神功粤劇的籌備過程、戲棚搭建、經費來源、地方色彩、戲班組織、演員培訓及演出特點,以及神功粵劇的興衰如何反影香港文化的變遷。

簡介
陳守仁早年在香港中文大學及美國匹茲堡大學取得音樂學士及博士學位,1987年至2007年在香港中文大學音樂系任教,講授粵劇、中國音樂、研究方法等課程,歷任講師、副教授、教授。他2008年初移居英國,2015年回香港定居;現從事粵劇研究、教育和義務工作,並於本年9月至12月出任香港科技大學人文學部的訪問教授。
Synopsis
Prof. Chan Sau-yan had surveyed ritualistic Cantonese opera in 1984, 1985, 1990 and 2006 before he and Dr Estella Lai jointly conducted a new round of study from early 2016 to March 2018 under the generous financial support of Lord Wilson Heritage Trust. This talk will focus on the organisation of a series of ritual opera, construction of the bamboo theatre, sources of funding, local customs, hierarchy in an opera troupe, the training of young actors, characteristics of the shows, and how the gradual decline of the tradition reflects the evolution of Hong Kong.
The Speaker
Prof. Chan Sau-yan read music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before he attained his doctorate at University of Pittsburgh, USA. He taught at the music department of the Chinese University from 1987 to 2007. In 2015, he returned to Hong Kong after a 7-year sojourn in Wales. He is currently a researcher and writer, and has been appointed Visiting Professor of the Division of Humanities, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
