演講摘要:


香港地方雖小,缺乏天然資源,但商業網絡功能巨大,是亞太地區人、財、物、資訊流通的樞紐。香港號稱國際金融中心,追源溯始,與英國於亞太發展金融資本主義不無關係,香港可以說是英國發展對華貿易最重要的踏腳石。香港華商充分利用了方面的有利條件,在政治上依附中英兩大政權,在經濟上積蓄資本,締造跨國商業網絡。本演講目的,在於從政治、經濟、文化不同角度檢視香港華商自1841至1997年百多年來的歷史發展。



講者簡介:

 

香港中文大學文學士,東京大學文學碩士和博士,專研中國近代經濟史。曾任香港大學亞洲研究中心專職研究員、現代語言及文化學院名譽教授。2003年獲選為香港傅爾布萊特學者到美國康奈爾大學訪問,2011至13年出任香港亞洲研究學會會長。近期著作包括:1) “The Cantonese emigration and family business networks in Hong Kong, South China and North America in the late 19th and the early of 20th centuries: A research note,” in Journal of Global and Area Studies, Vol. 1, No. 2 (Nov 2017), pp. 35-44; 2) “Dealings with CCP and KMT in British Hong Kong: The Shanghai bankers, 1948-1951,” in Translocal Chinese: East Asian Perspective, Vol. 11, Issue 1 (Jan 2017), pp. 125-149; 3) “Linking global and local networks of credit and remittances: Ma Tsui Chiu’s financial operations in Hong Kong, 1900s–1950s,” in Ulbe Bosma and Anthony Webster (eds.), Commodities, Ports and Asian Maritime Trade since 1750 (London & New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), pp. 165-178;4)“Avoiding isolation by the revolution: K.P.
